Iran ‘Everybody Knows’ a top film of 2019

Asghar Farhadi’s ‘Everybody Knows’ selected by Guardian as one of the finest movies yet this year released in the UK.

Directed by Asghar Farhadi ‘Everybody Knows’ has been selected by Guardian, the British daily newspaper, as one of the best films this year released in the UK.

Shot entirely in Spanish, the movie charts the story of Laura who travels with her family from Buenos Aires to her native village in Spain. An unexpected event twists the plot.

Guardian had previously published a review on the film, part of which reads “this is a movie about a devastating external blow to a family, delivered with almost supernatural accuracy, a blow which exposes all sorts of cracks and weaknesses and fault lines, and does so with such pitiless efficiency that it is almost as if these secrets and lies are a kind of sin which has called forth an inevitable punishment”.

The movie’s international box-office gross has been 18 million dollars so far.

‘Everybody Knows’ which is Farhadi’s latest work, experienced its first global screening at the 2018 edition of the Cannes Film Festival. It has been premiered in UK cinemas since March 8, 2019.

A number of great Spanish actors such as Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Ricardo Darin, Eduard Fernandez, and Barbara Lennie are among the cast.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ dark comedy ‘The Favourite’, Catherine Corsini’s ‘An Impossible Love’, Reinaldo Marcus Green ‘Monsters and Men’ and Lee Chang-dong’s ‘Burning’ are also among the Guardian selected films.
